Chesney’s New Navarre - Adorned For Christmas

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

Chesney’s Navarre - A New Addition To The French CollectionChristmas at Home begins with the tree and the fireplace… so Chesney’s has decorated this gorgeous fireplace from its brand new collection for this happy season.

A beautiful fireplace really comes into its own as the focal point of a room at Christmas and throughout the year; like a tree, it welcomes decoration and adornment!

The feel-good factor of a real fire can’t be underestimated, particularly during the short days of winter, whether watching a movie or relaxing with friends.

The Navarre fireplace featured is a new addition to the Chesney’s French collection; carved in statuary marble in the rococo style. Priced at £2275+VAT.

Shown here with forged steel fire-dogs (£375 + VAT) and forged steel fire basket (£350 + VAT).

Here are Chesney’s 5 key tips for decorating your mantle for Christmas:

  • 1. The key to decorating your mantel is to complement the fireplace with your decorations rather than dominate it.
    2. It is essential that the mirror above is in harmony with the fireplace both in terms of size and style.
    3. A French design, such as The Navarre, is best suited to bright colours and materials such as roses, silver baubles and crystal candle sticks with arranged greenery positioned centrally on the mantel.
    4. Surrounds in much darker material, such as Chesney’s Wessex Colection in St. Augustine marble, can carry far richer decorations. Red and gold are the key colours, which can be translated via red roses and gold accessories.
    5. Take into account the function and furnishings in the room, to ensure that its formality or otherwise is matched in the decorations.

Chesney’s Joyful Summertime Fireplace

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Chesneys Joyful Summertime Fireplace A Chesney’s fireplace always creates a grand focal point in any room and in the winter months this can be a feature, which looks great while also being a source of warmth and light.
However in the summer, how can you draw attention to the striking architectural presence of a Chesney’s fireplace in a different way?
Dressing the fireplace with seasonal blooms and foliage will show it in a fresh light:

  •     Try using catkins and willows to drape on and around the fireplace to maintain its focus in the room.
  •     Cascading foliage, flowers trailing to the floor from the mantel, a grate crammed full - and tumbling over delightfully with honeysuckle and jasmine, can be bright and romantic.
  •    Change the static and characterless vase of dried flowers, often stuck in the hearth when the fireplace is not in use, to make your Chesney’s fireplace a    joyful and colourful centrepiece for the summer!

Featured here is the Marseilles fire surround from Chesney’s Stone Collection:

An 18th century provincial French design in bathstone, of warm colour and rugged texture, with console jambs, plain frieze and a generous mantel shelf. This design can be seen in chateaux and manor houses throughout France.

Retail prices Marseilles fire surround - £1992; Swansnest grate for dogs - £188; Bath Andirons - £646.

Fireplace Competition at Chesney’s and KLC

Monday, June 5th, 2006

Prize-winning entries from Chesneys and KLCChesneys have always worked closely with established interior designers such as Chester Jones, Jasper Conran, Kelly Hoppen and Jane Churchill, so their latest venture with the world famous KLC School of Interior Design was no surprise.

The competition, which formed a large part of the KLC students’ syllabus, was to design a mantel for sale at Chesney’s.

The prize winning design will be produced, launched and established as part of the Chesney’s reproduction collection.

The standard of entries was so high that two separate winners were chosen - Kuew Liu for The Pacific Chimneypiece and Tara Wilson Craig for The Fibonacci Fire Basket (both pictured here).

Georgian Fire Surround by Templestone

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

Georgian Fire Surround from Templestone

Templestone produce fine stone fireplaces in either natural or reconstituted stone.

This Georgian Fire Surround is from their reconstituted stone range, so it’s kinder to the wallet than the hand-carved natural stone alternative, yet it still looks fantastic.

That’s because it’s moulded using a hand-carved stone mould, so it retains all the texture of the original stone.

Pictured here in Bath reconstituted stone with a black Italian honed slate hearth, the Georgian Fire Surround would make an elegant addition to any living room.

The Georgian Fire Surround from Templestone costs from £875.38.
