The Sandberg Studio has created an enchanting collection, inspired by the nostalgic influences of children’s storybooks from the 1950s, which tells a number of tales with-a-twist.

Engla and Elliot is a voyage of discovery for children and adults alike:

• The hand-drawn patterns are bursting with vivacity and a wonderful unbridled spirit of exploration.

• There are eight fabric designs, 13 wallpapers and four borders, all of which benefit from a suitably vivacious colour palette.

• They mix traditional with contemporary, and feature some totally charming and diverse motifs such as love-struck parrots, romantic circus horses and engaging elephants, a feast of cakes and candies, vintage cars, flower pots on parade, musical instruments, flags and letters of the alphabet; in fact something to inspire the imagination of children of all ages.

The new collection reflects Sandberg’s strong dedication to improving health and the environment: all the fabric designs are printed onto 100% organic cotton using environmentally-certified dyes, and the wallpapers are manufactured using sustainable resources from Scandinavian forests.

It’s official: ‘brights’ are in and this season we’re adorning our wardrobes and our homes with a cheerful palette of cheeky hues, acid tones and eye-popping candy colours.

Taking inspiration from floral arrangements that other artists might ignore, Jason explains how he takes the flowers we give each other to say “thank you”, or “sorry”- perhaps bought in a corner shop or from a stall - then photographing them when they are past their best.

“At this point, they often seem more interesting,” he explains. “Flowers can often look at their most beautiful as they start to wither and fall apart and this is when they have a quality which appeals to me.”

Jason then introduces a blast of fluorescence to make his flowers ‘pop’, which is always vivid and sometimes might be over the top. The more intense the better!’ he says.

Each Arraiolos inspired tapestry rug is hand made using the traditional long-armed cross-stitch which has made these rugs famous for over 700 years.

Historically they were made in Arraiolos, a central Portuguese town, and used as wall hangings and floor coverings; they are still made by a family run firm today.
