So Sanderson…..
Monday, May 10th, 2010
This year, marks the 150th anniversary of the quintessentially English brand Sanderson and what better way to celebrate than by collaborating with the country’s favourite retailer, John Lewis, which has worked closely with Sanderson to develop a beautiful collection of limited edition furniture and accessories.
John Lewis has taken its most popular armchairs Lux, Camford and Compton and upholstered them in elegant and distinctive designs, chosen from the Sanderson archive:
- Each armchair is not only exclusive to John Lewis, but will also be limited editions with only 50 of each design being made.
- Lux has been upholstered in Sanderson’s gorgeous floral Weybridge fabric, an original 1970s print, whilst the Camford features the zesty lime 1930s Swallow print.
- The Compton in our picture has been upholstered in Sanderson’s William Turner 1910 Roslyn fabric (indigo and gold).
Dan Cooper, upholstery buyer at John Lewis comments: “As another company with a long history in furnishing fabrics, John Lewis was delighted to work with Sanderson on this project. All the fabrics developed for the 150th anniversary event are superb as well as being perfect for anyone who appreciates a more adventurous, colourful twist on a classic.
“We have taken three of our best selling accent chairs, which importantly, are all manufactured in the UK, and chosen fabrics from the range which we think best suits each shape. Hence the relaxed Swallows fabric on the Camford and the Jacobean inspired design on the more formal Compton wing back.
We feel the marriage of upholstery shape and the fabric really brings these pieces, which are normally in antiqued leather or plain linen, to life.”
John Lewis has also introduced a 150th Anniversary collection of cushions featuring fabrics from the archives as well as an old Sanderson advertisement. With prices starting at £35 each, these cushions are not only affordable; they are pieces of interiors history that will most certainly continue to be timeless classics.
Finally, the fabric department at John Lewis will be running an exclusive colourway of Sanderson’s Swallows design, in a navy blue for £37 per metre – perfect for those looking to add a touch of Sanderson elegance to the home.
