Pick Of The Bunch - Jason D’s Vibrant Floral Artwork

Monday, May 24th, 2010

 Pick Of The Bunch - Jason D’s Vibrant Floral Artwork It’s official: ‘brights’ are in and this season we’re adorning our wardrobes and our homes with a cheerful palette of cheeky hues, acid tones and eye-popping candy colours.

With their eye-catching designs and bursts of floral character, Jason.D’s exclusive digital prints are right on trend. So, rather than getting the paint brush and paint pots out, why not add a shot of colour with a vibrant floral print from Jason.D’s signature collection?

Taking inspiration from floral arrangements that other artists might ignore, Jason explains how he takes the flowers we give each other to say “thank you”, or “sorry”- perhaps bought in a corner shop or from a stall - then photographing them when they are past their best.

“At this point, they often seem more interesting,” he explains. “Flowers can often look at their most beautiful as they start to wither and fall apart and this is when they have a quality which appeals to me.”

Jason then introduces a blast of fluorescence to make his flowers ‘pop’, which is always vivid and sometimes might be over the top. The more intense the better!’ he says.

With tempting names that sound like they’ve grown out of a real garden such as ‘Sludge Rose’, ‘Dogdaisy’, ‘Flowershow Pink’ and ‘Bouquet Fusion’ these abstract prints will keep summer blooms in your home all year round.

Prices for prints shown:

  • ‘Dogdaisy’ canvas print, 90cm x 90cm, £265;
  • ‘Pink Flower’ canvas print, 90cm x 90cm, £265;
  • ‘Fusion’ canvas print, 90cm x 90cm, £265.

P&P for Mainland U.K. addresses is included in the online shop price.

Jason.D prints are available to buy via his online shop.

Ancestors - Chinese Family Tree Paintings

Ancestors Chinese Family Tree Paintings from Guinevere

To celebrate China in London 2006 and to coincide with the show at the Royal Academy, Guinevere Antiques is staging a selling exhibition of Chinese ancestral family tree paintings.

Sourced from the Shanxi Province, these original works of art date from the 17th to 19th Century, and played an important role in Chinese family life. Usually commissioned for events like the birthday of the head of the family, they record in great detail all the members of the family tree.

Male and female ancestors are always shown separately, and some paintings even come in two halves. As each ancestor is shown as a recognisable individual, dressed in appropriate clothing for the period and often named, the paintings are also accurate historical records.

Many of the paintings in the show have been relined and put on stretchers ready to be hung as pictures - others are being sold unmounted as hangings.

‘Ancestors’ runs from December 2005 to April 2006. Prices for the paintings range from £1,000 to £10,000.
