The Orrefors By Karl Lagerfeld Crystal Collection

Friday, September 9th, 2011

The Orrefors By Karl Lagerfeld Crystal Collection The Orrefors by Karl Lagerfeld collection - his first ever line of crystal, designed for the Swedish glass designer, will launch exclusively in Harrods on 15 September 2011, followed by Selfridges as well as independent retailers on 15 October 2011.

Knowing the artistic excellence of Orrefors to be comparable with the world of high fashion, Karl Lagerfeld designed a collection in his own image:

  • Clean-lined, subtle and functional. The first members of the Lagerfeld crystal family are champagne flutes and coupes and wine, water and liqueur glasses.
  • Transparent, black or milky white, sometimes engraved with the KL monogram, the series typifies the Karl Lagerfeld ethos of ultra-strict lines.
  • And in the spirit of the designer’s well-known practicality, the series also includes monogrammed coasters, to prevent any trace of an errant drop on an immaculate tablecloth.
  • Based on the same principle, the collection also features a large round bowl, a rectangular vase and a cylindrical vase, each poised on four crystal globes on transparent platforms.
  • With its simple colour scale, its purity of lines and shapes, the flow of the material and the refinement of the details, each crystal contour of the Karl Lagerfeld series reflects timeless elegance.

The Karl Lagerfeld collection of Orrefors crystal will also be available in gift boxes containing pairs of monogrammed champagne flutes and separately sold boxes of engraved coasters to place under them.Prices for the Orrefors by Karl Lagerfeld collection range from £65 to £1,000.

The Orrefors glassworks has been a Swedish institution for over a century, carrying on the age-old tradition of hand-blown glass shaped by master artisans.

With its exquisite engravings, streamlined forms and colours ranging from delicate to rich, the Orrefors brand is one of the great symbols of Swedish design and luxury. It is a world-wide brand, gracing the finest tables such as the Swedish Royal Palace.

About Emma Bridgewater.
Emma Bridgewater Ltd is a British company owned and run by Emma (née Bridgewater) and Matthew Rice. The core of the business is pottery, which is made with loving care in much the same way as it would have been in Victorian times when the factory was built.

The company was born in 1985, when Emma was looking for a birthday present for her mother. She wanted to buy a cup and saucer, but in the shops she couldn’t find anything that she liked; the choices seemed to be either bewilderingly formal bone china with stiff silver or gold patterns, or clunky earthenware.

She liked some of the colourful Italian designs that she saw, but being made of terracotta they would crack or chip in the dishwasher. It was one of those “kerching!” moments - here was the opportunity she had been looking for; the pottery she sought for her mum was what every cosy kitchen needed. So she set out to design it herself.

Reflections of Love Peter Layton’s Romantic Glass Designs for Valentine’s Day:

What could make a more personal Valentine’s present than a unique heart-shaped work of art, created by one of Europe’s most respected craftsmen?

Peter Layton is Europe’s pre-eminent glass designer and his trademark use of rich colours, particularly reds.

His passion for working with hot glass and his skill at creating sculptural forms, make his designs the perfect way to leave your loved one in no doubt about your feelings.

Although his finest pieces are in museums all over the world, Peter’s work is still astonishingly affordable – smaller pieces can cost as little as £40.

Apart his own work, his London Glassblowing Studio and Gallery in Bermondsey, is a treasure trove of beautiful design pieces made by several other leading glassblowers who also create their work there, so there is always a great choice of different styles.

A special Valentine’s exhibition, with all pieces for sale, will be hosted at London Glassblowing from 31st January to 14th February at 62-66 Bermondsey Street. Each design is unique, signed and totally personal.

It is the studio’s philosophy that each object should be unique and signed by the artist.

Peter Layton’s London Glassblowing Studio, is a hot glass studio focused on the creation and display of contemporary glass art. The studio has a reputation as one of Europe’s leading glassmaking workshops, with a particular flair for the use of colour, form and texture.
