ProblemSolved Sorts The Men From The Cowboys
Last year the Trading Standards dealt with over 100,000 complaints about second-rate trades people – the shoddy work of rogue builders, plumbers and electricians ranking as one of Britain’s biggest grievances in 2006.
So when you need a trustworthy trades person, how do you avoid becoming a victim? Finding a reliable tradesperson in the telephone directories is a little like playing Russian roulette!
With this in mind, property journalist Alison Cork founded problemsolved.co.uk – an online directory of recommended and vetted trades people.
Â
The directory provides information about professionals from 120 trade categories, ranging from plumbers to garden designers; Problem Solved sources its members by public recommendation before vetting them for quality.

Can We Really Afford To Standby?
The Energy Saving Trust’s “Habits of Lifetime†survey concluded that 71% of householders admit to leaving appliances on standby; surely in a world of climate change, we all have a responsibility to protect our environment and the world we live in for our children?
It costs the average UK household £37 a year to leave their appliances on standby; this is equivalent to the annual output of about 2½ 700MW power stations!
Households in the UK now waste around 10% of their electricity bill on standby power; the average household has up to 12 gadgets left on standby or charging at any one time.

The Silano Shower Enclosure From Aston Matthews
Aston Matthews is a leading London retailer of contemporary and traditional bathrooms, including authentic Victorian cast iron baths and sanitary ware to stunning modern, cutting-edge designs.
The new Silano corner shower enclosure is truly unique, in that the glass panel, curved glass sliding door and stainless steel frame are suspended over the ceramic shower tray.
As the enclosure is not in contact with the tray there is no need for the usual rubber seal, which can harbour germs, make showers difficult to clean and eventually deteriorate; the tray has a raised lip to prevent water splashing onto the floor.
