Beautiful And Enduring Wood Floors From Element7

Monday, January 28th, 2008

Beautiful And Enduring Wood Floors From Element7 Element7 has an enviable reputation for supplying and installing the finest engineered wide plank floors.

Today’s discerning clientele demands exceptional wood flooring that combines classic or contemporary style, with the most up-to-date wood technology and performance characteristics.

Wide single-face planks (6 to 15”, or 155 to 340mm) are, without doubt, the most beautiful wood flooring option available.

However, when choosing a wood floor, one must look further than simple aesthetics:

The changing seasons, combined with various heating systems, subject today’s environments to quite extreme changes in temperature and humidity; when subjected to these changes, non-engineered solid wood floors tend to gap, cup and warp - ill effects that can usually be seen within one to three years of installation.

To overcome such problems solid wood must be precision engineered and, to do this correctly, an intimate understanding of wood and its properties is essential.

The engineering techniques used in Element7 wide plank, sets a world class standard and planks are available in up to 340mm widths and 5metre lengths.

There is a comprehensive range of woods and different finishes to choose from to create your own fabulous floor.

Pictured here is a spectacular floor in Brushed Fired Oak, priced from around £107per sq. metre.

There is a helpful advice and a gallery of examples on their website.

Unique StoneWenge Floorboards From Paris CeramicsParis Ceramics has pioneered the reclamation of both antique stone and terracotta from its inception in 1982.

Whilst the company pays homage to the rare antique originals, newly quarried stone, which has evolved to meet today’s requirements is also available to order.

Unique Felt Rugs From The Mountains Of Heaven

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

Unique Felt Rugs From The Mountains Of HeavenFor over two and a half thousand years, the nomadic peoples of the remote Tien Shan Mountains in Kyrgyzstan have created their dazzling felt rugs.
The Felt Company now imports these vibrant works of art direct from their makers in Kyrgyzstan to Britain and Tim Moock of Felt has set up a fair trade agreement with the nomadic peoples, bringing their superbly hardwearing rugs from the Tien Shan peaks to sit happily in Britain’s town and country houses.

Known as Shyrdaks, these wool rugs have a tough flattened felt base hand sewn with geometric surface patterns in coloured felts.  Motifs are chosen to bestow blessings, describe a scene or tell a story of life in the Mountains of Heaven.

Shyrdaks are as practical as they are decorative; made outdoors by the tribal women, each rug takes a master cutter and her team of makers between 10 and 20 days to complete.

The base of each rug is made from felted raw wool and the surface felt colours range from the dazzlingly bright to subtly muted tones, offering a wide range of decorative possibilities; each Shyrdak tells a unique story and comes with an explanation of the symbols to reveal their meaning.

The rugs are perfect for both floors and walls; sizes range from small (0.8m x 1m) to room sized (2m x 3.5m).  Prices start from £400 and go up to £5,000 depending on size and design.

Felt’s London showroom is at: 26 Glenfield Road, London SW12 0HG (by appointment).
