Johann Joachim Kaendler (1706 – 1775) played an outstanding part in the Meissen manufactory’s history and he was inspired to produce the Monkey Orchestra in 1753.
To celebrate the third centenary of his birth, the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory has issued the Tambourine Player, the 22nd figurine in the orchestral monkey series, in a limited special edition of just 300 worldwide.
The figure is modelled on one of a series of French engravings that fired Kaendler’s imagination originally.
The Tambourine Player bears the “Crossed Swords†mark in cobalt blue, the special is signed “J.J.K 2006†with the edition number in gold.
Any collector of the famous Monkey band will be eager to add this superb player to their collection.
