The iconic name in kitchens, Smallbone of Devizes is a leading ambassador for British craftsmanship.
Last year, working with Nina Campbell, it launched its first ‘Smallbone Designer Collaboration’, creating a new showcase for Britain’s craft and design skills.
This initiative sees an ongoing series of collaborations between Smallbone and leading British designers.
As the originator of the painted kitchen, nearly 30 years ago, Smallbone has asked each designer to create a ‘signature’ design to be handpainted onto its bespoke, handmade furniture.
Now Smallbone is launching its second, and equally high profile, collaboration, with William Yeoward – another venerated name in British interiors.
Invited to create his own design for Smallbone’s kitchen, bedroom and bathroom furniture, William’s response is typically all-embracing, fully exploiting Smallbone’s exceptional ability, to produce bespoke furniture and to create unique hand-painted finishes.
His charismatic approach to materials and colour, sees him exploring a driftwood theme – using wood graining in a palette of soft grey paints, to create a sophisticated trompe l’oeil effect:
- Hand painted by Smallbone’s decorative artists, the finish has an airy, beachcomber effect, reminiscent of the seashore.
- This is central to Yeoward’s concept, which launched in November at Smallbone’s flagship Knightsbridge showroom.
- Here, he has brought a complete setting into being; collaborating with Smallbone’s design team to specify the bespoke cabinetry, developing the finishes and dressing the kitchen with his own strikingly beautiful collections of china and glass.
Following in the footsteps of Smallbone’s first designer collaboration, William Yeoward’s concept premieres in London prior to launching through Smallbone’s UK and US showrooms.
Inspired by elements of both Scandinavian and New England style, it is bound to attract major interest on both sides of the Atlantic…spotlighting British design at its very highest level.
