The Restorative Talents of Craven Dunnill Jackfield

Replica Tiled Floor at Sandon Hall

Craven Dunnill Jackfield have been displaying their restoration expertise at Sandon Hall, a listed stately home in Staffordshire.

The Minton tiled conservatory floor at the Hall was 140 years old and showing serious signs of wear and tear.

In consultation with English Heritage, the decision was made to replace the stunning (but worn) original ornate tiled floor with a replica by Craven Dunnill Jackfield.

Using their tile-making and restoration skills, Craven Dunnill Jackson made 20,000 tiles for the project, 5,000 of which had to be cut to size. The encaustic tiles were hand-made using Victorian tile-making techniques.

Craven Dunnill Jackfield is housed within the Jackfield Tile Museum at Ironbridge Gorge. It has a reputaion for historical accuracy in its restorations, and has worked on many acclaimed renovation projects.
