Featured here is The Tortoise.<\/p>\n<p>The History.<br \/>\nThis type of Herend figure dates back to 1860, when the first little figurine of a cockerel was painted in VH colours for the famous author M\u00c3\u00b3r J\u00c3\u00b3kai who used the penname \u00e2\u20ac\u02dccockerel\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 in the newspapers.<\/p>\n<p>The pattern itself is older, for it appears on early Chinese porcelain figures as a stylized representation of bird feathers and fish scales.<\/p>\n<p>The Chinese forerunner, like so many other motifs originating in the Far East, was given a distinctively Herend touch that integrated into the style characteristic of the manufactory.<br \/>\nHerend revived the earlier d\u00c3\u00a9cor in the second half of the 20th century.
