Royal Copenhagen Introduces Sophisticated Black Lace

Monday, November 12th, 2007

Royal Copenhagen Introduces Sophisticated Black LaceRoyal Copenhagen is launching Blue Fluted Half Lace tableware in a captivating new black version, nearly 120 years after it was created.

The black pattern sets off the white porcelain and creates an elegant, sophisticated unity that radiates both exclusivity and respect for history.

Black gives the lace border new life and brings the service up to date with haute couture 2007 style.

“Blue Fluted Half Lace is a Royal Copenhagen icon, which makes it extremely exciting, to be allowed to use this new service to shake people’s perceptions that Royal Copenhagen is blue and white. ” explains Niels Bastrup, Royal Copenhagen’s Creative Director.

The History - The Blue Fluted pattern is the very foundation stone in Royal Copenhagen’s amazing history-it was the first service to go into production in 1775 and was revitalised and celebrated once more in the late 1880s, when the legendary artist Arnold Krog created Blue Fluted Half Lace.

The pattern is famous for its abiding popularity, its timelessness and the painstaking craftsmanship - 1,197 brushstrokes on a single plate!

Initially the service is being launched with the five most essential items: coffee cup, teacup, dinner plate, lunch plate and deep plate; available from late October.

Prices range from £78.00 for a coffee cup and saucer.

Herend’s Enchanting New Kimono Service

Friday, August 17th, 2007

The new Kimono service from Herend is a fine example of Japanese minimalism and symbolises the relationship between the distant island nation and European art.

The service includes six kimono-clad figures, women combing their hair or holding a parasol, samurais and couples; the asymmetrically positioned human characters have been painted with thick contours and strong, calligraphic brush strokes.

The human figures are complimented by the shadows of irregularly shaped trees, birds, fish and dragons; the various motif elements are grouped and appear in different ways on the assorted pieces, some of which have a gold rim decorated with silhouettes of black butterflies and plants.

The skilled craftsmen at Herend paint everything by hand.

Retail price for a teacup and saucer is £96 and a teapot £175.00.

Ronnefeldt’s Tilting Teapot Provides The Perfect Cuppa.

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

Mono’s Tilting Teapot Provides The Perfect Cuppa Yet again, tea is one of the most fashionable hot beverages, especially high quality loose-leaf teas are experiencing a growing interest.

However, they often beg the question of how to brew them perfectly?

Enter the Tilting Teapot, the fun approach to the perfect cuppa-this teapot can certainly solve the problem and in a very amusing way!

Start with laying the teapot on its back. Put the tea-leaves on the shelf (seen through the opening on the teapot to the left), then fill with boiling  water.

Once the tea has brewed, tilt the pot.

Finally, stand the teapot vertically, so that the water no longer bathes the leaves and the brew does not become bitter.

The unique tilting teapot retails at £ 33.50
