The Award Winning Jøtul F 373 Wood Burning StoveSince 1853, Jøtul has established its’ name world-wide, for outstanding design and performance in the manufacture of wood burning stoves and fireplaces.

Their Jøtul F 370 Concept has received a number of prestigious design awards such as the German ”red dot design award; best of the best”, the Norwegian “Award for Design Excellence” and the US Vesta Award.

Jøtul F 373 is the top-of–the-range model of the concept and boasts innovative shapes and detail with exciting diverse materials; large side windows give a fantastic view of the flames.

Main characteristics of the stove include:

  • This model is tall, slim and beautiful and has an elegant matching pedestal.
  •  A clean burn cast iron stove.
  • The stove can be rotated 3600 when installed with a top flue outlet, making the flames viewable through its large side windows, from any angle in the room.
  • All the models can be made more exclusive by adding elements made of soapstone and glass, such as extra glass for the front, sides and top, which lowers the surface temperature.
  • Finish options, grey or black paint and soapstone tops.
  • Optional decorative panels for the side windows give the stove a unique look.

“The spirit of Jøtul” is all about a passion for warmth, which has burnt brightly since the company began.”

Chesney’s New Navarre - Adorned For Christmas

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

Chesney’s Navarre - A New Addition To The French CollectionChristmas at Home begins with the tree and the fireplace… so Chesney’s has decorated this gorgeous fireplace from its brand new collection for this happy season.

A beautiful fireplace really comes into its own as the focal point of a room at Christmas and throughout the year; like a tree, it welcomes decoration and adornment!

The feel-good factor of a real fire can’t be underestimated, particularly during the short days of winter, whether watching a movie or relaxing with friends.

The Navarre fireplace featured is a new addition to the Chesney’s French collection; carved in statuary marble in the rococo style. Priced at £2275+VAT.

Shown here with forged steel fire-dogs (£375 + VAT) and forged steel fire basket (£350 + VAT).

Here are Chesney’s 5 key tips for decorating your mantle for Christmas:

  • 1. The key to decorating your mantel is to complement the fireplace with your decorations rather than dominate it.
    2. It is essential that the mirror above is in harmony with the fireplace both in terms of size and style.
    3. A French design, such as The Navarre, is best suited to bright colours and materials such as roses, silver baubles and crystal candle sticks with arranged greenery positioned centrally on the mantel.
    4. Surrounds in much darker material, such as Chesney’s Wessex Colection in St. Augustine marble, can carry far richer decorations. Red and gold are the key colours, which can be translated via red roses and gold accessories.
    5. Take into account the function and furnishings in the room, to ensure that its formality or otherwise is matched in the decorations.

Classic Fireplaces In Stone From After The Antique

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

Classic Fireplaces In Stone From After The Antique Although a much-abused term, the concept of a ‘classic’ piece of design is entirely valid; true classics can be defined by their ability to sit happily in many different settings - secure in the quality of their own design.

Fireplaces are a great example of the need for classic pieces and After The Antique has an excellent collection of designs, which work just as well in contemporary surroundings as in traditional interiors.

The essence of their success is simplicity of line, correct proportions and the quality of both the stone and the stonemasonry.

Featured here is just one of the company’s superb choice of classic fireplaces:

The Gothic Revival Fireplace (shown in white marble) Priced from £4,100.

Standard mantel length is 1526mm; or sized to order on special commission (Also available in limestone.)

After The Antique is a traditional stonemasonry company, whose skilled craftsmen will hand carve virtually any interior or exterior decorative element in solid natural stone.  This means anything from a fireplace, urn or statue, to an orangery or garden temple.

Chesney’s Joyful Summertime Fireplace

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Chesneys Joyful Summertime Fireplace A Chesney’s fireplace always creates a grand focal point in any room and in the winter months this can be a feature, which looks great while also being a source of warmth and light.
However in the summer, how can you draw attention to the striking architectural presence of a Chesney’s fireplace in a different way?
Dressing the fireplace with seasonal blooms and foliage will show it in a fresh light:

  •     Try using catkins and willows to drape on and around the fireplace to maintain its focus in the room.
  •     Cascading foliage, flowers trailing to the floor from the mantel, a grate crammed full - and tumbling over delightfully with honeysuckle and jasmine, can be bright and romantic.
  •    Change the static and characterless vase of dried flowers, often stuck in the hearth when the fireplace is not in use, to make your Chesney’s fireplace a    joyful and colourful centrepiece for the summer!

Featured here is the Marseilles fire surround from Chesney’s Stone Collection:

An 18th century provincial French design in bathstone, of warm colour and rugged texture, with console jambs, plain frieze and a generous mantel shelf. This design can be seen in chateaux and manor houses throughout France.

Retail prices Marseilles fire surround - £1992; Swansnest grate for dogs - £188; Bath Andirons - £646.
