Haddonstone’s Venus - The Goddess Of Love

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Haddonstone’s Venus, The Goddess Of Love And FertilityBreak with tradition this Valentine’s Day and give the garden lover in your life a gift that will last much longer than flowers or chocolates –a statue representing Venus, the goddess of love and fertility.

This charming statue would add romance to any garden and will look effective against a wall or dark formal hedge.

Statuary is also perfect for adding life to the garden in the bleak winter months, whilst also looking stunning among foliage in the summer –a gift that can be enjoyed in all seasons!

Haddonstone replicated the Venus statue featured, from a late XIX century Italian white-marble sculpture; she rests against a rocky outcrop and is depicted with flowing hair and a robe loosely draped around her body.

Haddonstone begins to weather and develop a patina after only a few years outside, becoming more beautiful with age –just like the loved one in your life!

Alternatively, a gift voucher (available in any value), will let the recipient choose from Haddonstone’s extensive range of cast stone garden ornaments.

If required, vouchers can be delivered direct to the recipient complete with a personalised message; vouchers are valid for 12 months and are supplied with a Haddonstone catalogue.

Awnings For Outdoor Entertaining From Hillarys Blinds

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

Hillarys Blinds All Year Space For Outdoor Entertaining Gardens are fast becoming an extension of the home as more people embrace a European lifestyle by eating, relaxing and entertaining outside.

It’s true that temperatures are rising year on year, however our weather has yet to follow our al fresco aspirations.

Despite this, we’re keen to spend more time eating and entertaining in the fresh air, which is why Hillarys Blinds are seeing a significant growth in the popularity of their attractive made to measure awnings.

Sunshades were originally intended to prevent strong sunlight from fading soft furnishings, but are coming into their own now to protect us from the elements - be it the sun’s rays or sudden rain showers.

So make the most of pleasant weather, by enjoying lunch in the garden with friends and family - a contemporary awning will keep the sun’s rays or the odd rain shower at bay and your food and guests fresh and dry.

Who says that awnings are just for spring and summer? Food often seems to taste better when it’s eaten outside, so why not enjoy the occasional winter barbie too?

Sarah Quilliam, head of product design for Hillarys says, “Although the traditional stripy fabric awning still has the edge, contemporary styles and fabrics such as linen effect are becoming more fashionable, especially in period, or more traditional properties,”

Hillarys awnings are fully motorized, available with clever sun and wind sensors and available in a choice of over 60 stylish yet durable fabrics - in any width from 2.5m to 12m, with free measuring and fitting; prices start from £1,395.

Menu’s New Lighthouse Series Of Oil Lamps

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

Menu’s New Lighthouse Series Of Oil Lamps Menu, the design company has introduced a new oil lamp series called Lighthouse, which features a newly developed oil burner that really lights up the night with an intensified flame.

Christian Bjørn took inspiration for his new table lamp range from the Scandinavian summer twilight, contrasting the gentle forms of the white porcelain with the intense, vibrant light; The Scandinavian coast has a rich supply of lighthouses to show the way in the night.

The effective Lighthouse oil lamps evoke pictures of people on voyages and stories of far-flung places and create an ambience that can be useful outdoors all year round.

Lighthouse oil lamps are made with porcelain, aluminum and synthetic materials and come in four sizes, 22 cm, 35 cm, 50 cm and 65 cm respectively.

Also in the range are two small tea light hurricane lamps 7.5 cm and 12 cm and a heater, which casts its light over the table at the same time as keeping the tea or food warm.

Furthermore, the new oil lamps have a unique filling system to allow filling the oil from above, so there’s no need to take the lamp apart.

Prices range from £15.95 for a small hurricane to £109 for the large oil lamp.

“This oil lamp doesn’t burn with just a little flame, it burns like a fantastic bonfire!” exclaims the designer Christian Bjørn.

Antique Chinese Troughs From After The Antique

Friday, September 14th, 2007

Antique Chinese Troughs From After The Antique The Antique Chinese granite troughs now available from After The Antique the stonemasons, were a sell-out on the company’s stand at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.

In rural China, for thousands of years, every household had one or more of these massive troughs, used for many purposes, including (as the holes in the troughs confirm) tethering their animals.

Migration from the land to the cities, has left these beautifully shaped and subtly carved pieces unused and liable to be broken up.

After The Antique is now buying these pieces of Chinese history and bringing them to British gardens – where they fit perfectly.

The troughs range in size from approx 120cm up to 240cm long, priced at £495 and £895 respectively.

Aquatic Therapy In An Endless Swimming Pool

Monday, August 27th, 2007

Beneficial Aquatic Therapy In An Endless Pool Because it is nearly gravity-free, aquatic exercise is the preferred therapy for many medical conditions; thus an Endless Pool, can provide aquatic therapy at the ideal temperature and pace for your needs, in total privacy and at your own convenience.

The Endless Pool’s adjustable current allows for an easily monitored progression of exercises.

Leslie Krichko, a professional water therapist and trainer, advises “therapy in an Endless Pool actually helps people with injuries recover faster,” for several reasons:

  • Water provides buoyancy and support for the body. When you are neck-deep in water, you only have to  support 10% of your actual body  weight.
  • In the pool, injured people can exercise with a greater range of motion without hurting joints or re-injuring themselves.
  • The workout gets blood moving faster through the injured area, so it heals faster.
  • Water pressure helps keep down the swelling that often accompanies injury.
  • You can increase your physical fitness while you recuperate, so prolonged physical therapy just to get back in shape, may not be necessary.

Water therapy can also be of benefit for people with arthritis, osteoporosis, multiple sclerosis, asthma, and chronic joint or back pain.

The ability to set the water temperature cooler (i.e. for MS), or warmer (i.e. for arthritis), is another key advantage of the Endless Pool.
