Haddonstone’s Ornamental Garden Inspirations

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

Haddonstone’s Architectural Inspirations For The Garden From planters to statuary and fountains to finials there is something in Haddonstone’s range for every garden.

But for the grandest ornaments of all take inspiration from classical architecture with a temple or pavilion.

Temples should not be regarded as mere buildings but as classical ornaments; they look magnificent when viewed from afar at the end of a vista or cresting a rise; essentially frivolous and mood evoking, often intended for no other purpose than to enliven the senses.

Featured here is a Small Classical Temple with Dome.

The octagonal sundial plinth, in the style of Robert Adam is decorated with masks and margents of husks, providing an elegant support for the Armillary Sphere sundial.

Cast stone orangeries make ideal pool houses or summer rooms, or why not let your imagination wander with a ruinous gothic grotto?

Greek Key Urn

Greek Key Urn from After the Antique

This decorative Greek Key Urn from traditional stonemasons After the Antique, would lend a bit of classical elegance to almost any outdoor setting.

After the Antique are a traditional stonemasonry company specialising in hand carved natural stonework, which they believe looks far better than the cast composite stone alternative, yet is not as expensive as people imagine. Much of their work is bespoke, and they pride themselves on being able to tackle any stone carving project, from a fireplace to a complete orangery.

This urn, which pays homage to Georgian garden stonework was originally carved for the Savills Show Garden at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show. The hand carved stone urn proved so popular with visitors to Chelsea that After the Antique have added it to their range of stone garden ornaments.

You can order the Greek Key Urn in limestone, sandstone or even marble. It costs from £1,550 and a matching plinth is available from £550.
